If you have been lacing up running shoes day after day but not seeing the results you would like, then this one’s for you

First off, nice work! Most people don’t even take the time to work on themselves, so high five!

If your goal is fitness, and fitness is defined as “work capacity across broad time and modal domains.” And with the understanding that your pursuit of true fitness will improve every marker of your health, from blood pressure to cholesterol then your pursuit of fitness is overall a pursuit of health… so basically, you are on the right track, you just need some more information

So here it is

If you are only running, then you are only doing 1 thing out of the 10 things you need to do to improve your fitness

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance – this is the one you are already doing

2. Stamina

3. Strength

4. Flexibility

5. Power

6. Speed

7. Coordination

8. Agility

9. Balance

10. Accuracy

Imagine there are 10 Major components to an engine but you only built one

Don’t worry, you are in good company, last week I programmed a gymnastic skill day that included flexibility, balance, strength and stamina… quiet classes that day

My suspicion for this is that people think that if they are not breathing heavy then they are not improving their fitness, much like the person who is doing all that running and nothing else

The reality is that the development of your health/fitness is going to require all 10 of these general physical skills, so if you have hit a plateau or are sick of never reaching that goal… maybe it’s time to try something different

Keep your running, after all it is one thing you should be doing, but mix in the other 9

What are you up to tomorrow, free trial ?
